Do you ever feel like you’re trapped in the wrong dimension?

You probably are.

Most of us live in the present moment while spending significant amounts of our emotional energy either regretting the past or worrying about the future.

Sometimes we regret the past because it’s over. We loved our past and we wish we could still be living in yesterday’s season of life. At other times we regret the past because we made mistakes in it that are still biting us today.

If we’re not regretting the past we’re often fretting about the future, and the obvious problem with each of these postures is that we no longer live in the past and we have yet to live in the future. We’re only living now. Jesus said, “Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matthew 6:34).

We can’t re-live yesterday and we can’t deal with tomorrow yet so that leaves us with only one option: max out today. Live today while it is still called today because when you wake up tomorrow today will be yesterday and it will be lost to you forever except in memory.

As the writer of Hebrews said: “Encourage one another daily, as long as it is called ‘today’” (Hebrews 3:13).
