“Moments of Silence”

by David Jackson

“Silver falling teardrops in rainbow skies, as she looks out her window through her prism eyes.

Wondering if he’s coming on his golden steed, her lover lies waiting beneath a bamboo reed.

Like a proud knight he rode away that day, his silver armor shining and his heart on display.

The enemy approaches, flaming steel pierced the rain, crimson running rivers cross her window pane.

Silent echoes were screaming as the golden steed came, its empty saddle scarlet and its white wings aflame.

Ebony shrouds of soft velvet will comfort her tonight, as she looks in the eyes of his son she holds tight.

A young mother is crying as she prays to the Lord, ‘Please don’t let my son take up his father’s sword.'”
