“The fiat of the Almighty…”

1 Mins read

In the late 1800s, Frederick Douglass, a courageous, compelling figure in American history, said these marvelous words: “I do not despair for this country. The fiat of the Almighty–let there be light–has not yet been spent.”

Think about that. God’s fiat, His formal decree or command, “let there be light” has not yet been spent. There is still residual power inside God’s opening words in the Scriptures when He commanded light to shine inside the darkness and chaos of Genesis 1.

Douglass was an escaped slave who became a brilliant orator, abolitionist, and preacher, and he understood that even at a time when darkness and chaos seemed to rule the day, God’s fiat, His eternal decree, could still produce life.

Let’s believe this today. Let’s be God’s echo chamber, and speak those same words into the midnight areas around us. The fiat of the Almighty has not yet been spent.
